TGIF -- yummy goodness

Where can you get some real good greasy goodness? T. G. I. Fridays of course!

Since I was in the area of Sunny Law School, I picked up Q and together we headed for some much needed food. First, I surprised her with a box of cupcakes from Kara's Cupcakes, which looked sumptuous and made my mouth water. However, in our shopping madness, I wasn't able to try these delicious cupcakes (I was only able to hear Q moan about it's goodness when she was eating one while I was driving us to the mall), so I'm letting Q make the reviews about those cupcakes.

Okay, back to the greasy goodness that is Fridays...

We each started off with a different form of alcoholic lemonade. See how big those glasses are? They fill it up with alcohol too. For lunch!! Who drinks that much for lunch? Needless to say, Q and I were not able to finish the drinks, and the only reason we kept ordering food was to attempt to finish the drinks. We failed miserably. I don't think we even finished one glass combined.

If you're ever at Fridays, you should try the Fried Macaroni and Cheese. They are to die for. Nice, crunchy coating on the outside. Yummy gooey cheesy goodness on the inside. I suppose anything fried is goodness to the tummy.

So, like I mentioned above, in our attempt to finish our alcoholic lemonades, we ordered the Brownie Obsession. See how pretty it looks?
And now see it disappear before your eyes!

After this healthy meal, we spent the next four hours walking off the alcohol and looking for the perfect pair of sunglasses, the perfect little purse and contact lenses solution. Fun times.

dum dum moment #4

"Option #2, $17.95 (minimum 2 people)"

Me: Honey, let's get this pre-set meal. It has everything we usually order anyway.

BF: Where? Let me see.

Me: Here, on the left side of the menu.

BF: Uh huh.

Me: It has potstickers, which you like. Then a soup dish, Honey Walnut Prawns, Princess Chicken and steamed rice. See, that should be enough for the two of us.

BF: And it's only $17.95?

Me: That's what it looks like to me.

BF: Okay, but ask if you can substitute steam rice for chicken chow mein.

Me: Okie dokie.

BF: Ever since you went back to school, you've been looking for cheap deals everywhere.

Me: Me so smart.

....

An hour later, after consuming all the food set out in front of us, the bill arrives and The Boy is looking at it strangely.

Me: What's wrong? Did they make a mistake with the bill?

BF: I don't know why the total is $54....

Me: What?! Let me see.

BF: I thought the meal was only $17.95.

Me: HA HA HA. We're such dum dums.

BF: Huh?

Me: It's $17.95 PER PERSON, minimum requirement of two people.

BF: Ohhhhh. Well, that makes more since because this is an upscale tourist trap.

Me: I was kinda wondering why they offered something for so cheap. Oh well. Lesson learned.

....

Cost of this dum dum moment: $61.00 for lunch for two and a blow to both our egos.

doctor's orders

Due to this incident back in high school, I've been suffering from joint pain in the knees ever since. But it doesn't stop me from being active. I run on the treadmill. I run on a track. I play badminton (even tried raquetball!). I climb stairs (which hurts more than running). I used to take spin classes and even step classes (if you can imagine that especially if you know I have no rhythm). And if the pain is particularly bad on a certain day, I will either do the elliptical or not exercise at all. I just tend to ignore the pain that results every time I bend my knees.

However, there is this nagging pain that has been radiating from the corner of my left knee for the last two weeks. I have stopped running on a treadmill or around a track. I even stopped using the elliptical. This pain is worse because it tends to grow in intensity at night, when I'm trying to go to bed and all I can think about is this throbbing pain on my left knee that shoots stabbing pains up to my hips and down to my ankles. How can a person sleep through that?

So I finally went to the doctor today. She ordered x-rays and referred me to an orthopaedist, who I will probably see after Spring Break. I wanted her to order an MRI since I don't think the x-ray will show anything. But hey, whatever she needs to do to get my insurance to cover the costs is fine with me. Hopefully the orthopaedist will eventually order the MRI (and I really really really hope this will not involve surgery--vicodin will numb the pain right?).

The doctor did, however, order me to stay off my feet as much as possible and to stop all activity that would cause undue stress to my knees. i.e. no more exercise involving the legs. This is one doctor's order I will faithfully follow!

However, the only reason I exercise is to help curb the effects of all the eating that I do. So I can't exercise, it means I *shouldn't* eat as much as I normally would like to. I guess I won't be pigging out during my spring break in San Francisco.

Ha, that was funny. Like I have the will power to refrain from eating. The doctor just said lay off the feet, not lay off the food. =)

best professor ever

With twenty minutes left until the end of class, our Civ Pro Professor tells our class:

"We'll stop here for now. You all go home and get some sleep."

The class, sleep deprived from doing an all nighter on our appellate briefs, clapped loudly in appreciation. Then the Professor added:

"Oh yeah, don't forget the interpleader is due next time."

I guess we can't have it all good all the time.

And now, I am off for a much needed nap.

orchids in bloom

BF Quote: "If you kill our love plant, the relationship is over."
...
Good gosh, talk about the pressure. It's hard enough to keep a regular plant alive, let alone an orchid plant! Well, it's been almost a month and the plant is still alive. In fact, the orchid has BLOOMED since Valentines Day, so I guess our love is blooming too.
...
Yes, you may commence gagging now.

i finally beat it!!

after many many many many many attempts over the last month, I have finally succeeded at beating the expert level of Minesweeper. I don't care that it took me 460 seconds. I beat it. My name is on the best times list. I'm done.

I can now go back to life before the addiction of Minesweeper.

crazy weather day

9:00 a.m. -- it's freaking cold out (okay, it's like 50 degrees, but that's still cold to my standards).

4:00 p.m. -- it's freaking warm out -- I'm guessing it was 75 degrees but the sun was out, I wasn't freezing in my long sleeve t-shirt and there was a nice gentle breeze. Beautiful spring weather. Why can't it be like this all the time?

6:45 p.m. -- it's freaking pouring cats and dogs! About 15 minutes before it started pouring, my tv show was interrupted by the news people saying that there is a "raging thunderstorm happening right now in the heart of Kansas City..." I looked outside and it was clear so I thought the news people were insane. Lo and behold, 15 minutes later, water started pouring from the sky. And there's lightning too. Tornado warning is still going on.

7:23 p.m. (right now) -- no more rain.

If Mother Nature wanted to top it off, she should make it snow in the next hour. That would be some sort of record for one day.

call on me! call on me!

I think my professors got together and decided that February is call on Q-Pig during class month.

The Prof for Constitutional Law calls on people according to a seating chart, going down the row from one person to the next, so it's pretty easy to guess when your turn is. So when it gets close to my row, I prepare better notes and try to act like I know what I'm talking about. Got called on for the first time two weeks ago and my "act" has worked so far.

The Prof for Civil Procedure likes to use his attendence list, pick a person to start with and then proceed alphabetically from that point. So, each day at the start of class, I hold my breath while waiting to hear who will be the first name he calls for the day. If the name starts with an A, I'm pretty sure I won't get called on. If the name starts with a K, I better listen and be ready to answer questions. Unfortunately, you don't get much warning if the Prof calls on you first, which happened to me last week. Luckily, I was semi prepared and was able to act like I knew everything I needed to know about joinder.

The Prof for Contracts just like to pick people at random, and unfortunately for that person, he/she will be picked on for the rest of the hour and will have to stand during the entire time. I had this same prof last semester, and he never called on me. I just assumed that he was afraid to butcher my name so that's why he never called on me. I admit, I started getting lazy for this class since I figured he'll just never attempt to pronounce my name so he'll never call on me. Yes, I did wonder why he just didn't use my last name, since it's not too hard to say a two letter word, even a foreign one. And what do you know? He decided to call on me today, using my last name. I was not prepared. I've been slacking off on the basis that he will never attempt to pronounce my first name. Of course I read the material, I just didn't "think" about it or properly analyzed it. Plus, I read this case three days ago so my memory was a bit fuzzy. Somehow, by the grace of some holier being, I survived the 40 minutes of questioning and the same time spent standing up holding a book.

The Prof for Property uses a "shuffle card" system. I also had her last semester and have yet to be called on. She claims that she shuffles the stack of cards, goes straight through the stack and then reshuffles. There are many people who have been called on three or four times already, so I seriously think she doesn't have a card for me. That, or my card is really glued to the back of someone else's card. So, yeah, I've been slacking in that class too. Knowing my luck, however, I'll probably get called on tomorrow because February is apparantly pick on Q-Pig month.

So, on that note, I'm going to read for Property.

fat free chocolate brownies

As I was shopping at the same place that sold this great Wok Gift Set, I saw these boxes of brownie mix that shouted "FAT FREE" and I thought to myself "WOW, can it really be?"
...
So, I bought four boxes of this No Pudge Fat Free Brownies because they had a variety of flavors (mint chocolate, cappuccino and original) and I couldn't make up my mind. Mint chocolate is my favorite so I doubled up on those.
...
As soon I got home, I made my brother go buy some yogurt (all you need to add is fat free vanilla yogurt!) and together we made a batch of mint chocolate brownies. It was a really thick mixture, but after thirty five minutes in the oven, out came the brownies. My brother gobbled up most of it, but luckily, I was able to sample a slice before my mother started ordering me around in the kitchen but a slice is not enough of a sample. My brother said the brownies tasted just like normal brownies, and since he most of it, it must have been really good. There was no time to bake another batch so I took the remaining four boxes of brownie mix back to Kansas City.
...
Well, wanting to share this new found goodness (and to also sample it again), I took the boxes of brownie mix over to M's house for our girls night in. She chose the cappuccino brownie mix and as we were watching The Pink Panther, we could smell the chocolate wafting through the living room. However, after letting the pan of brownie cool off, it turned out that it wasn't baked all the way through when I tried to cut it. So we stuck in back in the oven for another twenty minutes, and it still wasn't cooked all the way through. The bottom was still a bit fudgy and creamy. We were both craving chocolate so we didn't want to bake it any longer and just sorta let it cool while we scooped it into our mouths. M didn't like the brownies because they were too chewy for her taste. I couldn't get past the fudgy texture. I hate things sticking to my teeth.
...
It seems that Pudge-Free-Brownies-GOOD has a score of 1 and Pudge-Free-Brownies-BAD also has a score of 1.
...
Since I still have two more boxes of this stuff, I will try again and see if the fact that we used a glass baking dish at M's house has something to do with it (I used a metal pan at my mom's house).
...
But isn't the Pudge Free pig just so darn cute?

dum dum

I wish I was talking about the lollipops...

Dumb moment #1: Not realizing that 06:52 PST meant 08:52 central time AND that it's military time for AM and not PM.
Cost of this dum dum moment -- a losing bid on eBay.

Dumb moment #2: Getting overly excited about finding a $150 plane ticket to see The Boy; call The Boy to share good news but disappointed that he didn't answer the phone; was about to buy the tickets before they disappeared into oblivion before realizing that the reason the tickets were so cheap was because it was a roundtrip ticket from OAKLAND to KC and not the other way around. I guess no one wants to visit Kansas City....
Cost of this dum dum moment -- having to settle for $220 tickets, sacrificing the "surprise I'm here on your birthday" moment for The Boy, and spending fewer days away from Kansas City...um... I mean fewer days spent with The Boy.

Dumb moment #3: Not realizing that "The Stinking Rose" refers to a bulb of garlic and not a rose that actually stinks.
Cost of this dum dum moment -- my ego.

I'm thinking the brain needs some sleep now.

hmm...

Now I've seen everything. Pay just $7.99 and you get everything you need to make AND serve chicken stir fry for four.
Not sure whether I should be offended or upset that I didn't come up with the idea myself.

Happy Year of the Pig!!

People born in the Year of the Pig are chivalrous and gallant. Whatever they do, they do with all their strength. For Boar Year people, there is no left or right and there is no retreat. They have tremendous fortitude and great honesty. They don't make many friends but they make them for life, and anyone having a Boar Year friend is fortunate for they are extremely loyal. They don't talk much but have a great thirst for knowledge. They study a great deal and are generally well informed. Boar people are quick tempered, yet they hate arguments and quarreling. They are kind to their loved ones. No matter how bad problems seem to be, Boar people try to work them out, honestly if sometimes impulsively. They are most compatible with Rabbits and Sheep.

Click here for the other Chinese Zodiac animals.

On a similar note....if you read the following sentence, would you be offended?

"Famous pigs include Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, singer Elton John, actor Ken Watanabe and Nationalist Chinese leader Chiang Kai-shek."

Yeah, I just laughed real loud. Full story here.

winter wonderland

We got tons of snow dumped on us last night. Yeah, that's all snow, not a blank sheet of paper.

Doesn't it all look so serene and pretty?

Walking to school.

My very warm hat with the poofball on top. The Boy hates this hat, so I had to send him a picture just to annoy him.

Okay, I'm done taking pictures of the snow. Mother Nature, you can make the snow go away now. Thanks.

oh the misery

BF Quote of the day:

BF: I don't want to talk about it anymore. I'm done whining about my misery. Let's change the subject....

Me: Ok...

BF: ...talk about something happy about you...

Me: Um..

BF: ...tell me what's miserable in your life right now. That will make me happy.

And at that moment, I fall over backwards in disbelief that my misery makes the Boy happy. Generally though, the Boy is happy if the misery is not related to him. Yes, I have such a wonderful boyfriend.

Don't know why but still gotta love the guy.

Well, at least for another day.

Barrister's Ball

AKA Law Prom. Or, as an upperclassman told me, Geek Ball. I guess we're all geeks in law school.

Yes, I went to Law Prom. I took a female friend because the Boy laughed at the thought when I invited him a few weeks back. Oh well, his loss. He would have enjoyed the premium open bar, especially when they started serving cocktail drinks in full size plastic cups (the kind you take to picnics and drink soda out of). He might not have enjoyed standing 20 minutes in line waiting for a drink, but he would have enjoyed getting smashed along with all the other law geeks.

Okay, what's the absolute worst thing that can happen when you go to a party? Seeing someone else wear the EXACT SAME DRESS you are wearing. Yep, that happened to me. I bet she didn't pay $25 for the dress, though. I didn't recognize her so she was either an upperclassman or someone's date/wife/girlfriend.

While spending the entire night staying away from my blond haired clone, I did spot out three more dresses that were duplicated (two people wearing the same dress). Then we spent the time trying to decide who looked better in that dress. It was like a real life episode of US Weekly's "Who looks better?"

I'm guessing that Kansas City is a small community that all the women go shop at the same places and end up buying the same dresses. Great. I need to do all my shopping in San Francisco from now on. I knew I should have worn the red velvet dress.

Gotta go, halftime show is on.

priorities

Things I HAVE TO FINISH TODAY:

--Start writing 1100 word memo about dog owner's liability for dog bites.
--Finish that memo by 9 a.m. tomorrow. (Yes, I've been procrastinating ever since it was assigned last week because I have no motivation whatsoever to write this memo.)
--If time permits, read for Contracts and Civil Procedure.

Things I ACTUALLY accomplished today:

--Talking to the boy for half an hour.
--Ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
--E-filing my federal and state tax return.
--E-filing the FAFSA.
--Ate some Doritoes Cool Ranch
--Exchanging email messages with the boy for half an hour.
--Spent an hour on Lexis Nexis researching about a company being sanctioned for failure to use a back-up server to preserve emails (unsuccessful attempt to find a case the Boy mentioned in said email exchanges).
--Ate dinner.
--Watched Grey's Anatomy AND started writing the memo. See I'm good at multi-tasking.
--Discovered that the Mayor of San Francisco is a homewrecker.
--Wrote this post.

and finally

--Finished the memo, but it's still 86 words over the limit.

I quit...for now.

POS

Professor: Why are you sitting all the way back there? I don't see your name back there on the seating chart.

Student: I have a laptop that is a POS and it needs to be plugged in all the time.

Professor: What's a POS laptop?

Student: It's a Piece of Shit.

Professor: I had to ask.

----- ----- -----

That was the only highlight of Contracts today. Then it was torture for the last twenty minutes of class due to the professor's mood swing of being pissed off that no one had their UCC.

The one day I decide not to lug the UCC to class is the one day that the Prof decides to read from it.

subject to a condition precedent

BF Quote of the Day: "If you are able to get a date with Brad Pitt, I'll marry you on the spot."

Fellow readers, you are my witness to this challenge from the Boy. Therefore, I write the following to Mr. Pitt:

----- ----- -----

Dear Mr. Brad Pitt,

Although it pains me to have to break my vow of falling out of love with you because you broke Jennifer Aniston's heart, I must make this plea for your assistance in the state of my future marital status. It appears that my boyfriend will "marry [me] on the spot" if I am able to succeed in procuring your presence for "a date." So, if you're ever in the Kansas City area and would like someone to give you a tour of the law school or The Plaza, consider it a date. I'll promise to make it short, and your wife..er...girlfriend...um..mother of your child can also join us. My boyfriend did not say that our date had to be exclusive. And he didn't mention how long it had to be either, so an Appletini and an autographed photo will suffice as proof of our date.

I fear that you agreeing to a date is the only hope I have towards getting married with my boyfriend. It's either get a date with you to get the boyfriend to propose, or getting a new boyfriend. Perhaps getting a new boyfriend will be easier than getting a date with you. However, I will still persist because I have invested quite a bit of time into this relationship.

Have your people call my people.

Your former biggest fan, but will change it back to "your biggest fan" if it pleases you,

-Q-Pig.

my new favorite drink

Move aside Appletini, my new love is the So Cal Strawberry Lemonade. So sweet and yummy. The best part is that you can't taste the alcohol at all but you still get the same buzz, which is probably a dangerous thing if you think about it...

Anyhoo, here's the recipe if you want to try it out yourself:

So Cal Strawberry Lemonade

-- 1.5 oz Stoli Strasberi
-- 0.5 oz Strawberry Pucker
-- 1 large or 2 small strawberries, sliced
-- Fresh lemon juice (3/4 of a lemon)
-- Water to fill
-- 3/4 oz Simple Syrup

Muddle syrup, lemon juice and slices well. Shake and serve in a rough pint glass. Garnish with lemon wedge.

Stick in a straw, sip and drink. Repeat as needed.

is this how it's supposed to be?

Friday:
Appletini

Tuesday:
So Cal Strawberry Lemonade and Key Lime West Martini

Wednesday:
Peach Marmalade and an Apple Martini

Friday:
Appletini, Kamanawanaleia, and a Konatini
That sure was a lot of drinking in one week. I think I'm done with that. They tell me you become an alcoholic during law school, but I can't do it. The drinking life is not for me. I don't think I can be one of those law students who has to get piss ass drunk every weekend to make the stress go away. Give me food and chocolate, that will make the stress go away any day.
Lots of yummy sushi from Kona Grill.
And a giant brownie fudge sundae for a happy ending (by "giant" I mean it was literally 3 inches by 3 inches and probably a good 1 1/2 inch high).
Goodness gracious, I really need to go on a diet now.

We're not in San Francisco anymore, Toto

You know you're not in San Francisco anymore when your Contracts professor mistakes you for the only other female Asian in the class. Don't know why I'm even bothering distinguishing any region of Asia since we all apparantly look the same anyway. He probably thinks we're both Chinese, too, which neither of us are.

I think I need to start shouting "I'm not Chinese!" again, like I used to do when I was a kid.

Fantabulous

That's a new word I'm going to start using until I get sick of it.

I went out with a couple of friends to celebrate a birthday and the non-birthday girl came up with the name of the outing: Fantabulous Birthday Celebration. And then that word has been stuck in my head ever since.

Anyhoo, we went to Happy Hour at George Brett's Restaurant. Do you know who George Brett is? Don't worry, I didn't either. George Brett was a player on the Kansas City Royals baseball team, and after a little searching, he's in the Hall of Fame too.

Here's a picture of the yummy mini-burgers and fries we ordered. The burger was about the size of a half dollar and the bun was about twice that size, so basically you're eating bread with meat on the side. The fries were yummy too. (That's not my hand.)

Here I am, stuffing my mouth with a mini-burger. Food in my mouth, what else is new?

This is the birthday dessert we got (and the waitress gave it to us for free!). It's supposed to be a "Half a Banana Split Sundae."

Doesn't this look like a full size sundae to you? Three full scoops of ice-cream, with toppings, and literally just half of a banana (so there's really no split in it). I was envisioning a half size version of a banana split, with smaller scoops of ice cream and half of a banana (cut in half vertically) that was split down the middle and placed on either side. But no, we got a full size sundae with "half a banana." Now, you gotta wonder what they do with the other half of the banana. Do they actually save it for another order? Wouldn't it turn brown? Or is it a snack for the chef? He needs his potassium too.

Who cares what happens to the other half of the banana. This half disappeared just the same. Good ending to a good meal.

And now I must go punish myself at the gym before doing any actual school work.

ice, ice, go away

I ventured out this morning to go to the post office (and to turn in the paper b/c the professor said it was still due at 9 a.m. but "don't risk your safety" of getting it in) and after taking just two steps, I slipped and fell, landing really hard on both my knees. Both knees are scraped, one is bleeding a little and a giant bruise is already forming. And I was extra careful to avoid the ice that was visible. I was not, however, aware of the "invisible ice," the kind results from melting snow/ice and making such a thin layer of ice that you can't see it's there.

This incident brought back memories of the snowy days during highschool. It was the first day of snow during my sophmore year in highschool, and we were all lining up to get on the bus to go home. As my friend and I were walking towards our bus, I noticed her flailing her arms as if she was slipping on the slush. In an attempt to brace her fall, I stepped forward and lost my footing on the slush also. My friend was able to compose herself and keep on walking. I, on the other hand, fell down face forward screaming "AHHHHHH!!!!" My friend turns around and starts laughing at me until she realizes that there are tears coming down my face. She keeps pulling me up and I keep telling her that I heard something go "POP" in my knee and my leg is bent at a very weird angle. Other people start trying to pull me up from the ground, telling me to "walk it off" and ignoring my cries that I think I broke my leg. And apparantly, I am quite a bitch when I'm in pain because people said I was cursing like a sailor and just kept yelling at everyone to stop pulling me up.

Eventually, the vice principal and a couple of other teachers came and asked what happened. Two of the male teachers picked me up and as soon as they did, I heard my knee pop again and told them the pain was less now. They called my dad and the ambulance and I spent the day in the emergency room waiting for x-rays to come back. Luckily, I didn't break a bone, but the impact of the fall tore all the tendons holding my kneecap in place and I had to wear a brace for two months to let that heal. Limping around for two months is not fun. Being called "gimp" for two months is not fun. Walking up three flights of stairs in a brace is not fun. Learning how to walk normally again is not fun.

Eck, don't want to think about that anymore.

So until this ice melts away, I am never going outside again. The last thing I need is to walk with crutches for the rest of the semester.

Another snow day

Classes are canceled for the day again! So I'm assuming that I also do not have to walk over and turn in my writing assignment, which is due at 9a.m.

I looked outside my window and I see the plow trucks cleaning the roads. I also don't see massive piles of snow either. So I really don't understand why classes were canceled today. Perhaps the below freezing temperature is the reason?

All I know is that I need to get out of my apartment because I've been holed up since Friday. There's only so much TV I can watch. I don't want to feel so trapped!!

Well, I'm gonna leave the warmth of my bed and attempt to make it through the coldness of the living room to get some breakfast.

Question of the Day

I go to bed at the same time every single night. So, why is it that I have to force myself to wake up at 7:30am every weekday morning so that I can go to class, but then when I want to sleep in Saturdays, my eyes automatically pop open at 7am? I don't get it. Is my brain telling me that it would rather watch Saturday morning cartoons rather than go watch videos about constitutional law?

snow day

Yesterday, I heard rumors that it was going to ice and snow all weekend, starting at 3am this morning.

I woke up today, I checked my email to see if they canceled classes. As of 7:45am, classes were still in session. So, I got ready and walked over to school for my 9am Contracts class (what a waste of time that was) and then walked back home after class because I had a two hour break and I needed to eat.

It was lightly raining small pellets of ice during my walk home, but I didn't think anything of it. I got home, printed out internship applications, resumes, ate lunch, and then walked back to school for the mandatory OCI meeting at noon. During my walk back to school, however, it was raining a little harder, and the ice pellets were a little larger. And I was beginning to slip a little as I took each step. But, I made it to school.

Guess what happens next? Someone runs through the hallway announcing that classes were canceled for the rest of the day. And the mandatory OCI meeting was canceled too. So, I basically walked back to school for nothing. I guess everyone is afraid of ice around here.

As of right now, it's still raining ice. And it's supposed to rain ice tomorrow. And then sometime this weekend, the ice is supposed to turn into snow. Whoop de doo. I hate the cold.

With classes canceled today, you'd think I would take advantage of the extra time to do school work. Yeah--I've been surfing the web for snowboots for the last three hours. At least I'm productive at doing something. I could be sleeping under my thick, warm blankets right now. That sounds like a good idea...maybe I will take that nap right now.

Wednesday, January 10, 2007

I hate the gym.

But you all probably already know that.

After three weeks of gorging on food (winter break in San Francisco consisted mostly of eating at all of my favorite Asian restaurants because I will never be able to eat that kind of good food in Kansas City), and a week of being lazy once my vacation was over, I decided today was the day that I will jump back on the exercise wagon.

I now regret my decision. My thighs are hurting. My arms are hurting. My back is hurting. My fingers are hurting. And all I did was a 30 minutes run on the treadmill (but mind you, I ran 2.75 miles so WHOO HOO for that accomplishment!). I don't know why my fingers are hurting, but I figure that my body is in shock for putting it through such a rigorous workout after almost a month of not doing anything at all. I fear the pain my body will be in tomorrow.

And today's workout may seem a bit useless since I am going to eat pizza in about an hour and half. Why would I do that, you ask? Because it's for class??? Alright, watching The Money Pit and eating pizza is not a requirement for class, but if your property professor is hosting it and says it will be a fun learning experience, why not? And supposedly, we're suppose to learn something about property, so it's good enough reason for me. That and the pizza.

And for those of you who wants to procrastinate, I suggest you play this game: Who Wants to Marry a Founding Father? Kept me from reading my con law for about half an hour...

Summer Jobs - a story

Jack died and went to heaven. At heaven's gate, the Lord said to him, "Jack, I want to give you an opportunity to let you choose whether you want to spend the rest of eternity in Hell or in Heaven. I'm going to let you go down to Hell, try it out for a bit and then let you decide which you like better. How does that sound to you?"

Jack is surprised at God's offer but wanted reassurance that there was no gimmicks involved. "Are you serious, God? There's no gimmicks involved, is there?"

God replies, "Absolutely none. I don't want to pressure you, so you can spend as long as you want in hell, and then give me an answer when you're ready."

Jack agrees and immediately he is transported down to Hell. What he saw was not what he expected.

There were beautiful supermodels running around in their bikinis, playing volleyball on the beach and drinking Maitais for as far as Jack could see. There were men drinking along with the bikini clad supermodels, eating lobster in one hand with a beer in the other. There were people driving Ferraris down the street and others playing golf. And best of all, the temperature was a warm seventy five degrees.

A bit dazed and confused, Jack thought to himself, "Is this really Hell? How come it's so nice and warm? How come no one is being whipped with a stick to throw rocks into the lava? This can't be Hell!"

Then a big busted blonde walked up to Jack and asked, "Wanna come play volleyball with me?"

Jack quickly nodded his assent and followed the blonde, immediately forgetting his earlier state of confusion.

And so Jack spent a few weeks down in Hell, enjoying his Maitais and bikini clad co-habitants. Jack decided that it was about time to go back to Heaven's Gate and tell the Lord what he wanted to do for all eternity.

At Heaven's Gate, the Lord asked Jack, "So, Jack, have you decided what you wanted to do for all eternity?"

Jack replied, "Well, God, Heaven is great and all, but after seeing what Hell is really all about, I mean no offense to you but I think I want to go to Hell."

God nodded and asked again, "Are you sure, Jack?"

Jack immediately nodded yes and was transported back into Hell. Only this time, there was no bikini clad supermodels running around in their bikinis. There was no one playing golf, surfing, playing volleyball, or driving Ferraris. All that Jack could see were people with chains on their hands and feet, dragging large sized rocks and dropping it into a firey quarry below. There was a giant red man holding a pitchfork and whipping people with this large black whip. The giant red man saw Jack just standing there and immediately whipped him into work in the scorching hot temperature.

After a few weeks of carrying rocks to the quarry, Jack, still dazed and confused, went up and asked his supervisor, "Hey man, I don't get it. When I went to visit Hell a few weeks ago, it all all nice and warm, with pretty people running around and we were playing volleyball everyday. Where is that Hell?"

The supervisor responded, "Oh, that was our Summer Associates Program."

surprise of the day

This is the second day of the semester and my first class of the day was my 9 a.m. Contracts class.

As usual, I walked out of my apartment at 8:45 a.m. and meandered my way across the two blocks to get to school. I got to class, decided not to sit in the assigned seat from last semester, took out my laptop and book and was ready to begin an exhilarating discussion of the Parole Evidence Rule. The clock said 8:55 a.m. and I noticed there was only five people sitting in class.

I thought it was odd that the majority of the class was not IN CLASS five minutes before class starts. It's normal that the professor usually arrives five minutes late (and then keeps us five minutes after) but still, shouldn't people be sitting in class and shooting the shit right now?

And then it happened. The email that canceled class for today. The email that the professor sent at 2 a.m. in this morning. TWO A.M.? Do "business hours" not apply to professors? AND he's not even showing up for Monday's class, but sending a sub instead. I just know that he's going to give us about twenty minutes notice for when he wants to have a make-up class. What a great start to the semester.

Lesson of the day: Check your email BEFORE leaving home. Just in case someone decides to cancel class while you were sleeping.

Highlight of yesterday: Finding $15 in the pocket of a gym bag that hasn't been used since leaving San Francisco in August. Whoo hoo! I'm rich! Bring on the chocolate cake!

watch what you say

I spent the last weekend of my vacation helping the Boy move his things from his house to a storage locker in the middle of no where, USA. We had to get a U-Haul truck to move his bed, so we went to this tiny place off the highway and waited a zillion hours for a truck, but we almost didn't get a truck at all due to the Boy's frequency to mouth off. See below:

U-Haul guy: Well, I can rent you a 10 footer but you will have to return it to the U-Haul center in North Highland. Is that okay?

BF: Sure, no problem. Wait, it's the same price if I return it there?

U-Haul guy: Yes, it'll be the same price. They just need the truck to be returned to that location.

BF: Okay, no problem. Sign me up.

Me: Honey, where's North Highland?

BF: It's the ghetto area. It's the hood.

Me: Oh.

U-Haul guy: Hey, just stop right there. North Highlands is not the ghetto.

BF: Oh, yes it is.

U-Haul guy: I live there.

BF: Ohhhh......shit.

U-Haul guy: And if you want that truck, you better take those words back.

BF: I'm so sorry. Did I say "ghetto"? I've been living in [the expensive rich area] for so long that I forget that North Highland is just as good as [the expensive rich area]. Please give me a truck.

U-Haul guy: Okay now. You remember that North Highlands is not the ghetto or the hood.

BF: Yes, sir.

Me talking to the Boy after we got into the U-Haul truck: You and your mouth. One day, you're going to get us both beaten up.

And so we drove from the Boy's house through "the ghetto" to get to his storage locker. I'm not so sure it's "the hood" since there's this giant moo cow on top of a gas station advertising fresh milk. I'm thinking that we're in redneck county. And I swear the guy who rented the storage locker to the Boy was Larry the Cable Guy himself.

6 mouths and 1 chocolate sundae

For one of my last meals in the Bay Area, the Boy and I had dinner with some of his family at the Elephant Bar (the website is not very informative, I must add).

The Boy had the Chicken Tenders meal. His father and step-mom had the Steak Tips. His sister and nephew shared a chicken dish and I had no idea what kind of meat was on his sister's boyfriend's plate but it looked like beef. I had the ribs, of course, and only half a rack this time. Plus you have to throw in a few drinks in there. The drinks arrived before the food so I immediately got tipsy after drinking half of my Tropitini (the Boy's sister had to finish the rest for me).

Anyhow, dinner was really good, and everyone was too full for dessert. Everyone but the Boy's father. So he ordered a Chocolate Sundae, which kinda looks like the picture below but you have to add a giant brownie slice to get the full effect. And someone at the table told the waitress to bring "lots of spoons" with the dessert order.

The ice-cream came and it's only natural that that a grandfather would share his ice-cream sundae with his grandson. But when the grandson starts going "Oh, yummy, ice-cream sundae, yummy," others at the table would want to make use fo those extra spoons and have a little taste test of the sundae too.

So, there we were, one Chocolate Brownie Ice-Cream Sundae, and six people with spoons scooping ice-cream into his/her mouth. Since no one at the table likes brownies (the horror of that!), I had the pleasure of eating the entire brownie slice, and of course had to wash that down with a few spoons of ice-cream. I tell you, that sundae was gone in about three seconds flat.

The only one who didn't take part in this testing madness was the Boy's sister's boyfriend. I wonder if it's because he doesn't feel like he's that close to "The Family" yet. Or maybe he knew better and that he didn't want to risk catching any disease that either one of the six mouths were carrying.

Well, I'm still alive and kicking over here.

I love Chinatown

Cingular charges me $29.99 for a new phone charger.

I find a phone charger in Chinatown for $4.99. And I got to see a Lion Dance show.

Whoo hoo. How can anyone not love Chinatown?

"Well, that's a f**king miracle."

"I got a big fat f**king nothing for Christmas."

"I f**king hate Christmas. The kids nowadays get too f**king much."

"My girls got another f**king Barbie Doll for Christmas. They have about 30 different Barbie dolls! There's like a f**king Barbie convention going on at my house. And that's not including all the other f**king dolls, like the American Girl dolls, or the Dolls of the World, or the Doll dolls. And weirdest of all, each f**king Barbie has a different name and they know it all by heart. 'Don't let Sarah go into the corner.' How the hell can you tell that one is Sarah and the other one isn't when all the f**king Barbie dolls look the same?"

O Christmas Tree, Part Duex

Here is The Boy's Christmas tree.
(I can't say "Our" Christmas Tree because it would totally freak out The Boy and I would rather not spend the rest of my winter vacation with him being all weirded out by a single word)
It doesn't amount to Macy's $2,000 trees, but it was decorated with lots of tender loving care. The tender coming from The Boy and the loving care coming from me. hee hee

And below is our attempt at decorating the mantel over the fireplace.

See the stocking? I made that. From scratch. It took hours and hours of painstaking stitching. In the dark. Okay, that last bit was a little overkill on the exaggeration department.

O Christmas Tree

I love decorating Christmas trees. I love looking at other people's decorated trees.

Above, is the giant tree in the middle of Union Square.

This picture is just to show you how big the tree really is.

I really love how Macys decorate its trees.

The pretty "Fairy Tale Tree"

The "Let's Stick As Many Toys On Here As We Can" Tree. Not one of the better ones, but a fun one nonetheless.

"March of the Penguins" Tree.

One of two "Upside Down Tree." Yes, it's really upside down. I did not flip it over in photoshop. See, there's a guy standing right side up.

I don't understand these upside down trees. It's weird looking. Who started this fad? I bet everyone will have an upside Christmas tree in fifty years.

The Macys trees are gorgeous, and quite pricy. If the normal person attempted to duplicate one of these trees, it could easily cost $1,500...and that's a low estimate.

Q and I were wondering when Macys starts hiring people to decorate their trees. We'd totally be happy to decorate trees for $10 an hour.

tearjerker

If you go watch The Pursuit of Happyness anytime soon, bring a box of kleenex with you. Trust me, you will need it.

Well, unless you're a heartless soul like someone I know (ahem, yes, I mean you), then you will probably not need the kleenex.

Good movie, people. And the scenery of San Francisco was so pretty too.

How to get a free dessert

Step 1: Order the "Classic Cheeseburger" cooked MEDIUM WELL.

Step 2: Sit back, munch on potato skins and converse with your fellow dinner guests while waiting for your order to arrive at the table.

Step 3: When the waiter drops off your Classic Cheeseburger at your table, grab the burger with both hands and take two big bites. Chew. Wrinkle your eyebrows. Take a look at the remaining burger in your hand and raise an eyebrow while asking your friends, "Does this look like medium well to you?" Listen to each friend's shocking reply:

"That is NOT medium well."
"That looks rare."
"Really rare."
"Eww. That burger is still mooing."
"Did they even cook that?"

Step 4: Flag down waiter and show him the bleeding piece of burger. Look at the shock on waiter's face as he takes away your burger and promises you a new one.

Step 5: Look at your friends enjoying their dinner while you sit and wait for your new burger, but also thinking that you just swallowed raw meat and could possibly contract mad cow disease.

Step 6: Be surprised when the restaurant manager comes out and personally apologizes for the bleeding/mooing burger and again promises you a fully cooked burger is on its way.

Step 7: Pick off fries and chicken tenders off your friends plate while waiting for your replacement burger.

Step 8: Exclaim that you're too full to eat the new burger when the manager finally delivers the replacement burger. But take a bite of it anyway to make sure that the meat isn't mooing. Happily show everyone the burger that it is not red inside.

Step 9: Be extra surprised when the manager keeps coming back to check your happiness scale on the replacement burger. Be even more in shock when manager offers to give the table a free dessert. Browse the dessert menu and pick the most expensive one, then wait for the manager to deliver your free dessert.

Step 10: Be prepared to binge and purge after joining in with your four other friends in trying to conquer the massive "Brownie Finale" (6x6 inch block of brownie with tons of ice cream and whip cream piled on top). But also be disappointed at the same time that five full grown adults with healthy appetities could not finish the brownie madness.

Step 11: Drive home and fall into a food coma as soon as your head hits a soft spot on the friend's sofa.

Editor's Note: No, I did not eat the mooing burger. I just witnessed this event. For those of you who know me, I rarely eat hamburgers and when I do, they have to be nuked all the way through. I did, however, try really really hard to eat all of the brownie dessert but had to throw in the towel with half the giant brownie on the plate.

karma

Remember how in my last post I dared my current laptop to "go ahead and die" because I had a new laptop waiting for me in San Francisco?

Well, I received a LEMON from the stupid computer company and am currently awaiting a replacement.

Let's just say that I am currently making love to my old laptop in hopes that it won't be angered and break down on me again. I will never again wish any more ill will towards it. I am going to be on my best laptop user behavior until the new baby laptop arrives and is in good working condition.

DONE! DONE! DONE!

I AM DONE WITH FIRST SEMESTER! WHOO HOO!

I finished my last final exam exactly 1.6 hours ago. I even finished early, just so I can make it to the airport on time to check in my luggage. But of course, the flight is delayed and so here I sit, blogging about the end of the semester. I should have learned from experience. I have yet to see a Southwest flight depart on time.

So, my year end thoughts about the complete of my first semester of law school:

--Yes, first year of law school is hard, but not hard as in "what the f are they talking about?" but hard as in "I have so many things to do and not enough time to do it." Well, the most "work" I did was for my legal writing class, which involved a lot of research, writing and re-writing towards the middle of the semester. I guess I put a lot of work into my outlines for my finals too, but most of that started after Thanksgiving, which really counts towards studying for finals and not really work throughout the semester.

--Now that I'm done with finals, there's nothing else to worry about for the rest of the year. Well, nothing to worry about but how I did on the exams. I still can't come to grasp the concept that my entire semester grade comes down to the moment of how the professor is feeling while he/she is grading my final exam. I say this because I seriously think my Contracts grade will depend on whether my professor is in a good mood because no one has any idea how he came up with the points he gave us on our "practice" midterm (where if you did well, it will count towards your final grade, but if you bombed the practice midterm, then it won't hurt your final grade). Yes, it's just an odd feeling to have to sit around and just wait and see if my destiny will definitely be in the legal profession (because for all I know, I could have flunked all my exams and they'll kick me out of law school next semester and that's that).

--I have to go through five more semesters of this???

--I think the majority of my classmates are out drinking right now, as I sit here in the airport waiting for a plane to arrive and take me away. I kinda want to join my classmates in celebratory drinks, but I have eager to get on that plane and finally see The Boy. I thought maybe the icky feeling in my stomach was due to being nervous about the Contracts final, but now I think I'm actually nervous about seeing my boyfriend again. I mean, it's been FOUR months since I last kissed him goodbye. Would it be weird if I gave him a running hug as soon as I see him at the airport, while at the same time knocking him to the ground that might cause him to suffer a concussion and then not realize who the hell I was??? Okay, imagination gone wild there. The Boy is having the onset of a cold, therefore I will refrain myself from causing any injuries due to my happiness of seeing him.

Okay, I think I'm blabbing and there is no point to this blog. I am done. End of story. And plus, the battery on my laptop is dying so I must turn it off in order to avoid this disaster again (but I have a brand new slimmer laptop waiting for me in SF, so go ahead and die, you old heavy piece of metal/plastic/whatever the heck you're made of!).

the curse of the hiccups

I just bought a bottle of Mr. Pibb, opened it and took a quick chug when my phone rang and showed that The Boy was calling.

(An aside: I don't know why the vending machines are not stocked with Dr. Pepper, this is the midwest, home of Dr. Pepper is it not?)

Me: **hiccup** Hi Honey.

BF: Hi there....did you just hiccup?

Me: **hiccup** um yeah, **giggling** I just took **hiccup** a swig of **hiccup** Dr. Pepper **giggle, hiccup hiccup** and now I have the **hiccup** hiccups.

BF: Oh gosh, are you drinking already?

Me: Nooo **hiccup hiccup hiccup** I'm **hiccup** studying. **hiccup**

BF: Yeah right. You can't handle the pressure anymore so you're downing vodka. I know. It's okay honey, drink your stress away.

Me: **hiccup hiccup** I'm not drinking! **giggles, hiccup hiccup**

BF: How cute, my drunken little mouse hiccuping her way through law school finals.

Me: **hiccup hiccup hiccup** okay, go away now **hiccup hiccup** can't talk **hiccup hiccup** must stop **hiccup** this **hiccup**

And what do you know? As soon as I hang up with The Boy, the hiccups go away.

playing hooky

9am this Friday morning

Friend: Are you sure you want to go see a movie? I don't want to cut into your study time.

Me: Sure, no problem. I'll study until noon, go to the movies and then study afterwards.

-----

Eight hours later after a round at Oak Park Mall and watching The Holiday...

Friend: I don't want to take up any more of your time, but do you want to go to Old Navy real quick?

Me: Sure, what the hell. If I'm going to be at play today, might as well make the most of it. I'll punish myself later.

-----

And now I'm punishing myself with a dinner and then possibly a nap. I still have two days until my Property final. PLENTY of time to study...

halfway there

Two finals down, two more to go.

But first, some much needed sleep.

Good night y'all.

Bitch of the Day

"I'm sorry to kick you out, but you all need to leave this study room because your time is up and I have to study."

Yeah, and like we don't?!

Monday, December 04, 2006

Look at the pretty pictures while I prepare for my Torts final.

Day 1: Ice Storm

Day Two: Snow

Day Three: Sun on snow.

The football field. I really wanted to jump the fence to roll in the fresh snow and build a snowman.

The lights at the Plaza.
Standing in the middle of traffic.

crisis avoided

I just nearly had a heart attack and seriously thought my life was over.

I was quite productive today. I started the morning with a half hour run on the treadmill, followed by several hours of studying at the library. Then, I dropped off my books and laptop at home, grabbed the yummy food my mommy prepared and froze for me over turkey break and went over to CC's place for dinner and walk around the Plaza.

Dinner was good. Outing at plaza was fun. Then I got home and decided to upload the pictures to my laptop. I took the laptop out of my bag and placed it on my desk. Plugged it in. Hooked up the wireless mouse. Pressed the "ON" button and nothing happened. I thought it was odd, so I pushed the button again. And again. And again. And again. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING HAPPENED.

ohmygod what the hell ohmygod what the hell why isn't this turning on ohmygod my laptop is dead ohmygod all of my notes ohmygod my outlines ohmygod how the hell am i supposed to take my finals? ohmygod ohmygod ohmygod don't panic don't panic maybe the battery is dead and just needs charging ohmygod my notes my outlines ohmygod I have to handwrite my exam? what the hell goodness why me ohmygod laptop, please just turn on for mommy please please please mommy is sorry that she is looking at buying another laptop please just turn on I don't know what I did but I'm sorry if I angered you but pretty please just turn on OH SHIT MY LIFE IS OVER!!!

So after the panic attack and some sense took over, I hoped that the reason my laptop wouldn't turn on was because I drained the battery by leaving the laptop on standby without plugging it in when I dropped it off at home. So I left the laptop plugged into the wall and just let the battery recharge while I watched a couple of hours of TV and prayed really hard that that would be the solution. After what I thought would be enough time for the battery to be charged, I pushed the "ON" button and nothing happened. I pushed it again and again and again, and still nothing happened.

OH
SHIT
LAPTOP
IS
DEAD
AND
I
HAVE
FINAL
EXAMS
IN
TWO
DAYS
WHAT
THE
FUCK

Yes. Panic was so bad I didn't bother censoring any of that. I was almost in tears trying to figure out why the laptop wouldn't turn on. The battery had two hours to charge, so why is it not showing any signs of life? I even noticed that the little green light next to the picture of the battery wasn't even on. As a final effort to resolve this problem without completely losing my mind and calling the Boy to start crying about how my laptop has failed me, I searched for the reset button on my laptop and pushed it about a gazillion times. Then I pushed the "ON" button again and IT FINALLY TURNED ON! OH MY GOD IT WAS THE HAPPIEST MOMENT OF MY LIFE!

I opened every program to make sure it still worked. I opened up every document to make sure it was still there. I really did shed tears of happiness to finally have the laptop breathing life again.

Thank goodness my laptop is not dead. I seriously would not have been able to go to sleep tonight if that were the case. My hand is still cramping from the thought that I might have had to hand write all of my final exams.
